Compare Big Mouth Juicers to Select the Best

Is Wide Feed Chute a Necessary Feature?

Big mouth juicers are automatic centrifugal juice machines with wide, round feed chute at least 3″ in diameter to accommodate large chunks of produce pieces or even whole fruits or veggies.
The wide feed chute reduces preparation time since you don’t need to cut the food into tiny chunks compared to masticating style auger juicers that have much narrower feed tube, requiring you to chop and dice the produce before juicing.

Big mouth juice extractors have become very popular because they fit in our quick life style due to easy and fast juicing: you can quickly add a few sticks of carrots, a medium size whole apple or peeled orange through the wide feed chute and the rapidly rotating stainless steel blade grinds the produce into pulp, then the centrifugal force presses the pulp through the tiny holes of the mesh screen separating juice form fiber.

Since there are many big mouth juicers available on the market let’s do a comparison to find out which is the best value unit.

When Should You Buy a Big Mouth Juicer?

big mouth juicers-centrifugal automatic pulp ejection juice extractors
If you are just starting to juice and you’re planning to get your first juicer I recommend that you consider several factors before going out and getting a big mouth juice extractor.

First of all think through what type of produce you’re going to juice most of the time. If it’s apples, carrots, oranges, carrots and beets then a centrifugal juicer with automatic pulp ejection and wide feed chute is a good choice especially if you want to spend little time on preparation.

If you want to juice leafy greens, wheatgrass or herbs then you need to get either a single auger or a dual auger juice extractor that can process grass-type produce, and operates at low speed (cc. 75-120 rpm) to protect the nutrient content of the juice against oxidation and overheating. Read more on the benefits of Low RPM Masticating Type juicers.

Centrifugal juicers aren’t designed for juicing greens and wheatgrass: they will extract very little juice form these types of produce so you would be wasting a lot trying to make a couple of ounces of green juice in a centrifugal machine. Centrifugal style, big mouth juicers are best for juicing hard fruits and vegetables with considerable juice content.

Small Feed Chute vs. Wide Feed Chute

Not all centrifugal juicers have big, 3-inches wide feed chute, many units have smaller feed tube (e.g. the L’equip Mini Pulp Ejector Juicer, Model 110.5 has crescent shape mouth measuring 2.75″ x 1.5″).

Are small feed chute juicers any good? Do they have any advantages over a big mouth juice extractor?

A juicer with smaller feed chute allows more contact with the blade due to the slower feeding of produce thus the juice extraction will be a bit more efficient. This is especially noticebale when you juice leafy greens

(although centrifugal juicers aren’t made for juicing greens you can have good results by making tight, firm balls of the leaves or wrapping them around a hard vegetable piece – celery or carrot – and juice them this way): a small feed chute juicer will yield more juice from leafy veggies. The biggest benefit of a wide mouth juicer is the quick, hassle-free, no-cutting-necessary juicing so if no-fuss, quick juicing is an important feature, and you are going to juice mostly firm, high liquid content produce (apples, carrots, celery, beetroots) then you should definitely buy a wide feed chute centrifugal pulp ejector juicer.

Other Important Features to Consider to Get a Good-Value Juice Extractor:

  • Motor Power – to efficiently cope with hard produce a good centrifugal juicer has to have at least a 350-400 Watt motor power. Don’t go for the over-hyped Jack LaLanne Power Juicers that are operated by only a 250-watt motor.
  • Warranty – the longer the better, the best big mouth juicers carry at least 5-year warranty on all parts. Note that the Jack Lane juicers’ life-long warranty is only for the motor (which is the least likely to break down), for other parts the warranty is only 90 days.
